“It was really more talking about possibilities, envisioning some of the main spaces on campus, exploring ways (to) make them more welcoming, inviting and frankly, just more frequently used by our students,” said Roadtree.
In 2020, the commission submitted a report on the university’s historical ties to slavery and racism, and recommended changing, moving or adapting monuments, memorials and artifacts related to this history and adding more background and exhibits to tell the whole racial story of the university.
“We’ve had some great discussions about visioning possibilities in that direction,” Rountree said.
He said the board would consider adopting a master plan for these changes at its next meeting in May.
Livingstone said the academic affairs and student life committees spent time at Friday’s meeting discussing support programs and the student experience at Baylor.
“We’ve looked at the progress we’ve put in place for our students who are really looking for an experience above and beyond, whether that’s…the national and international scholarship opportunities that we have,” Livingstone said.
