St. Tammany Children’s Advocacy Center celebrated the grand opening from their new location at Franco’s Forum (formerly the Bogue Falaya shopping center) last Thursday. The Center can now better meet the needs of abused children in St. Tammany and Washington parishes. Executive Director Cheri A. Staten designed the new center with a child-centered interview and counseling environment that is both warm and non-threatening to children. The goals of this new facility are to provide better investigation, rapid and vigorous prosecutions, and appropriate clinical intervention for children and their families.

Bids open at 7 p.m. Wednesday March 24 at the Bayou Liberty Water Association distribution system at the 342 Old Spanish Trail office, according to Gary Faciane, president. The project, which will serve some 950 subscribers, will be funded by a federal loan of $ 525,000 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The loan will be repaid from the income collected from the water customers. The tenders will be for four separate contracts – two for the water distribution system, one for wells, pumps and controls, and the other for a raised water storage tank with a capacity of 300,000 gallons. .

Covington’s new Citizens Bank & Trust Company will soon have its quarters in the Poole building on New Hampshire Street ready for occupancy. Louis D. Ross, chairman of the bank, said Wednesday that Robt. Lobdell, architect and builder, has started to remodel and redecorate the site and the vault equipment has been procured from Diebold Safe and Lock and will be installed by Mose Chatelier of Madisonville. The building will be completely renovated, the facade and entrance remodeled, modern banking fixtures installed and flexible asphalt flooring.

A real estate affair of some importance happened this week in the sale of Prévost Island by Les Coquilles Co. Inc. to Southport Mill Ltd. The island is also known as Las Conchas or Les Coquilles or Weems Island and is bounded by Lake Pontchartrain, Salt Bayou, West Pearl River and The Rigolets, containing 4,988 acres. Also 100 acres of adjoining Prévost Island to the north. The consideration was $ 38,851.00.
