Jamie Dornan emails critic to reply to comments made about his North Irish accent

One reviewer claimed Jamie Dornan had “emailed him” to respond to comments made about his North Irish accent.
Last year, Kevin Maher reviewed the movie Nowhere Special, in which Dornan didn’t really appear – and criticized the actor’s accent.
In the review, Maher said the film’s star, Londoner James Norton, produced a Belfast accent “more convincing” than Dornan “can handle in real life.”
Maher explained: “You see, to my super-sensitized ears, his soft Belfast tones (he grew up there) have just a hint of Americanized flattening, the kind of accent shift you get after years gone by. as a globally recognized media figure.
“In her case, first for modeling, then for staring in mega-hits like the hit and heavily ridiculed franchise – often by yours truly – Fifty Shades.
“Most people wouldn’t hear the change in accent, but I did.
“And I pointed it out, earlier this year, quite happy with myself, in a review of the film Nowhere special . Dornan wasn’t even in that one, but I noted with irony that film star James Norton, a London posho trained at Rada and Ampleforth, produced a ‘more convincing’ Belfast accent there than one that ( derisory epithet alert) ” Fifty shades star “Jamie Dornan can handle it in real life. Big mistake.”

The same day, the film critic claims to have received an e-mail from Dornan expressing his annoyance at being “slammed into the review of a film in which he has not even appeared”.
Maher admitted he didn’t initially believe the email was in fact from Dornan and responded by using quotes around his name – but said the man from Holywood then texted him on Instagram “as proof”.
Maher said: “Dornan replied that it was indeed him … and that even with the accent explanation considered, he couldn’t help but detect a certain mocking tone in my allusion (which was enough. just – the Fifty shades movies really don’t do it for me).
“He ended, however magnanimously, with a conciliatory note, by mentioning my dogs.
“I was taken aback. In a tightly controlled Hollywood branding world, I was struck by the authenticity of Dornan’s simple and straightforward act of contact …
“He replied that we should meet someday. I replied that I couldn’t think of anything better.
Maher now says his appreciation for all things Jamie Dornan has grown so much that he will now “defend him to the end against anyone who dares to translate his choices, his previous movie roles and certainly his accent.”
